Why we built V34.
In 1968 an orthodontist in Arkansas named Bill Klusmier asked a patient to wear a gum-healing gel in a tooth tray overnight. He was treating irritation from braces. The gums got better. The teeth also came back whiter, and nobody had been trying for that.
That accident is where peroxide whitening comes from, and the molecule has not changed since. What changed was the packaging — a tray, then a strip, then a pen, then a light, then a serum. The ingredient underneath stayed peroxide, and so did the sting that comes with it.
PAP is the first time the category changed the ingredient instead of the packaging.
THE SCIENCE
Real chemistry, not a TikTok aesthetic.
PAP
Phthalimidoperoxycaproic acid. It oxidizes the stain itself, through a non-radical reaction — the same job peroxide does, without the free radicals peroxide makes.
The violet layer
D&C Red No. 33 and FD&C Blue No. 1. Violet sits opposite yellow, so a thin film cancels yellow tones on contact. It comes off when you eat, drink or brush — the way concealer does.
